APPENDIX B
Recommended Supplements
Obesity
Obesity, America’s most prevalent metabolic disturbance, is actually a
manifestation of insulin excess and insulin resistance. To counteract this
problem, I recommend supplements. Many nutrients can facilitate the weightloss
process. Researchers have found that chromium can help with stabilization of
sugar levels and is optimal to reduce sugar cravings.
Conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) can help with weight loss. As I mentioned,
CLA is found in butter and whole-fat dairy products. The supplementation of
these two products enhances insulin sensitivity in muscle cells.
L-carnitine, which is manufactured naturally in the human body, can assist
with the breakdown of fat; therefore, supplementation with L-carnitine may be
beneficial. I also recommend vanadyl sulfate. Avoid many of the commercial fat-
loss pills, as they usually contain caffeine and may cause palpitations.
SUPPLEMENT WITH
• Chromium, 3,000 to 4,000 mcg/daily initially then reduce to 1,000
mcg/daily
• L-carnitine, 1,000 to 2,000 mg/daily
• Conjugated linoleic acid, 2 to 4 g/daily
• Vanadyl sulfate, 10 to 20 mg/daily
• Lipoic acid, 100 to 300 mg/daily
