processed food right to your doorstep. What a contradiction! Let me ask you,
how long will you do that?
Some of us turned to the newest popular diet of the day. Just look at the list of
the best-selling diet books over the last 40 years and you can see the tragic state
we’ve reached when we have no good guidance from our medical organizations
or when we act in desperation. In 1972 it was The Atkins Diet, a very
highfat/very lowcarb diet. In 1979 the country moved to an opposite approach
with The Pritikin Diet, a very low-fat/very-highcarb diet. In 1992, it was back to
The Atkins Diet, with a new revised publication. Lowcarb diets really took off
big time with the low-fat approach showing all its ugly horrors. Many took
notice. In 1999 The Zone was published. It is still a lowcarb diet, but it’s slightly
more balanced. On the Zone, you can easily replace your meals with a processed
Zone bar containing added chemicals. Isn’t that an easy and practical diet that
many can follow? In 2003 people embraced The South Beach Diet. Twenty
million Americans are followers. The South Beach Diet recommends fake fats.
In 2005 the country moved on to Skinny Bitch, a very strict vegetarian diet. If
you happen to be man, don’t despair; another fad diet will eventually come your
way. And it did. In 2008 both men and women moved on to The Flat Belly Diet.
Some fats were now acceptable on this diet, but so was processed food!
One thing’s for sure: there is no shortage of fad diets. I heard that some 200
diet books hit the American marketplace every year. How come we have become
so gullible? From one approach to another approach, and from one extreme to
another extreme, what is happening? Our hormones are all over the place and
can’t figure out what to do with all the abuse we’re doing.
The way I see it, we have truly been lost. I’m no longer surprised or even
shocked by the diets my patients tell me they’re following—the Latte Diet, the
Grapefruit Diet, the Green Tea Diet, and so on and on. Without guidance from
the medical establishment, we turn self-taught people into diet gurus. They
appear regularly on TV and radio to dispense nutritional advice and detrimental
recommendations. Would you bring your taxes to a doctor instead of an
accountant? If you broke a tooth, would you see a mechanic or a dentist? What
has happened to us? Did a lack of real food in our diet make us unable to tell the
difference between real advice and fake advice?

A Pharmaceutical Society
It’s no surprise we’ve become a pharmaceutical society. I, for one, am sick of it.
It is the twenty-first century, and our health is collapsing. Our medical system is
broken. The information we are fed is influenced by lobbyists. Low-fat...
