lowcarb...who knows what to believe or whom to believe? No wonder we are so
sick. In the unlikely event that your doctor doesn’t prescribe a particular drug to
fix your ailing health during your all-too-brief 10-to 15-minute visit, you’ll
probably speak up about it. The pharmaceutical companies have taught people to
ask for drugs themselves. It takes just a few minutes of watching TV for the
viewer to learn the benefits of countless drugs. In the meantime, you’ll be
bombarded with commercials for sugary cereals, soda, margarine, and diet
franchises advising you to buy processed food or lowcarb products. As a result,
we’ve become a sick society that thrives on drugs. Here’s the truth: real, natural
food is the miracle medicine Americans desperately need to improve their
health.
Look at the older generation, many of whom are senile and even sick today—
and they were not exposed to nearly as many toxic foods as we eat today! As a
result, our generation will be in poorer health than this older generation. Take
action and change your health. It is a fact; Americans work more hours than
workers in other industrialized nations, and they have little time to cook. It’s
certainly easier and cheaper for us to grab a fatfree muffin, a doughnut, a slice of
pizza, or a quick pickup from a fast-food restaurant instead of cooking in the
kitchen for hours. Real food costs more money and takes more time to prepare.
That may be true, but believe me: you don’t need Martha Stewart’s cooking
skills to improve your health. Just eat real food and don’t fear natural fats to get
your diet balanced.
Research That Contradicts the Low-Fat Approach Is Generally Ignored
I know that you’ve heard for most of your life that in order to stay healthy, you
need to follow a low-fat diet. Perhaps your doctor has implored you to avoid
cholesterolrich food and choose cereals over eggs. Now you find yourself
reading a book that tells you the exact opposite is true; that you shouldn’t fear
the natural fats in whole milk, butter, and cheese; and that you should cut
anything that says “fatfree” on its label, including milk! A diet that dispels many
mainstream recommendations can certainly send mixed messages. If you feel
like Alice in Wonderland, you’re not alone. But I am not here to confuse you; I
am here to help you.
We are constantly confronted with lies, misconceptions, and myths about
nutrition, but I’ve done all the homework for you with this book. Why isn’t your
doctor giving you the right information? He or she probably made it all the way
through medical school without completing a single course on nutrition. Because
of this lack of education, doctors today simply follow established guidelines,
