Whipped Shea Body Butter


This    recipe  makes   a   light   and fluffy  shea    buttery moisturizer that    you can
use from head to toe. It works to keep beneficial moisture locked in while
letting your skin breathe. Customize this recipe by adding your favorite
essential oil blend or using an infused oil from Chapter 7 instead of the
olive oil.

YIELDS: 10 ounces by weight. The volume will vary depending on how much
air you are able to whip into the final product. Plan for this and have enough
jars to hold 14 ounces by volume.


⁄ cup shea butter ⁄ cup coconut oil ⁄ cup olive oil, or favorite
infused oil from Chapter 7
4 vitamin E capsules
Essential oil blend, optional (see Appendix A) What you will need:
measuring cups, double boiler, mixing bowl, electric mixer, rubber
spatula, jars with lids to hold 10–14 ounces of butter



  1. To Make: Start the double boiler on medium heat. Once it reaches a boil,
    reduce heat to simmer. Place the shea butter in the top of the double
    boiler and cover. Simmer until almost all the way melted, stirring
    occasionally. To preserve the beneficial nutrients, do not overheat.
    Remove from heat, take the top pan off the double boiler, and wipe with
    a towel so no water drips into your melted butter. Pour into the mixing
    bowl and use the rubber spatula to get all of the melted shea out of the
    pan. Add the coconut and olive oil and allow to cool 10–15 minutes. Stir
    the oils, scraping the hardening butter off the sides of the bowl. If you
    have a whisk attachment to your electric mixer, use it. Otherwise, the
