Antoinette’s Dress Shop: Personnel Plan
Antoinette’s Dress Shop will employ a full-
time assistant manager and two full-time
clerks.
Th e assistant manger will be Sally Walters
(resume attached). I have known Sally for
several years and believe we will work well
together. Until recently, she was the assistant
manager of the dress department of a large
department store, where she helped modern-
ize the merchandise line. Her department
increased sales by 25% in two years.
Sally will be paid $11 an hour to start, with
a raise to $12 as soon as the business pays
the owner $3,000 per month and shows a
profi t. My goal is to fully involve Sally in the
business so that I will feel comfortable leaving
her in charge when I take time off or have
obligations outside the store.
Sally will work a 40-hour week primarily
assisting customers. She will also assist in
ordering decisions. Sally will sometimes open
and close the shop and make bank deposits,
although she will not have to do so regularly.
She will work from 12 p.m. until 8 p.m.
Tuesday through Friday and all day Saturday.
Th e sales clerks will be paid slightly above
prevailing wage. Th ey must be personable,
presentable, and have some prior retail sales
experience. Th ey will work evening hours
Th ursday through Saturday and be available
to help Sally and me during peak selling
times. Th ey will also assist in keeping the
store attractive by stocking, cleaning, and
developing window displays. Sally and I know
several acceptable candidates and the local
unemployment offi ce indicates that many
more are available.
I will work six days a week at the start,
but will consider closing the store on
Mondays if that proves to be a slow day. I
will act as seamstress until business expands
signifi cantly. If business expands more rapidly
than forecast, additional part-time clerks
and a part-time seamstress will be hired as
appropriate.
Antoinette’s will not off er health insurance
or other employee benefi ts until the profi t
picture warrants them.
