boundtothepeptidecomponentsofthemurein.Clumpingfactor,fibronec-
tin-bindingprotein,andcollagen-bindingproteinbindspecificallytofibrino-
gen,fibronectin,andcollagen,respectively,andareinstrumentalinadhesion
totissuesandforeignbodiescoveredwiththeappropriatematrixprotein.
ProteinAbindstotheFcportionofimmunoglobulins(IgG).Itisassumed
that“false”bindingofimmunoglobulinsbyproteinAprevents“correct”
bindingofopsonizingantibodies,thushinderingphagocytosis.
