We conclude therefore, that once Christ has saved us, He considers us His
children no matter what, unless or until we sever ourselves from Him. He cannot
force us to become or remain His children, but He is merciful, faithful and just
enough to forgive us of every sin if we repent. So Jesus does not reject any of His
children, but it is possible for His children to reject Him and turn back to the world,
to sin, to their life before Christ. If these children physically die without repenting
and turning back to God, then they too like Judas, become the lost sons of
perdition.
Regarding this, the Bible greatly encourages us in Hebrew 10:39 thus: ‘But we do
not belong to those who shrink back and are destroyed, but to those who have faith and are
saved.’ And in King James Version ‘But we are not of them who draw back unto
perdition ; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul.’
A big exemption here are those who choose to live a hypocritical life, claiming to
be born again for personal gain, while living their lives in sin and self-gratification.
Only God knows who these are, it’s difficult for man to judge since even genuine
children of God can fall into grave sin and appear like hypocrites. Case in point
Peter and the disciples denial of Jesus, David’s double sin of murder and adultery,
Mark deserting the Ministry, etc. (Matthew 26:56, 2 Samuel 11, Acts 13:13).
The Bible is clear that if our lives consistently portray a life of sin which is contrary
to Christ, even when we confess Him, then we probably are not His children to
start with. For ‘No one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God’s seed remains
in them; they cannot go on sinning, because they have been born of God’ (1 John 3:9).
A child of God can fail and even sin seriously. They can even seem to be in a period
of continuous sin for a while but eventually repent and turn back to their God. But
anyone who sins continuously with abandon and still claims to be a child of God,
is in danger of being rejected by Jesus Himself. For as Jesus says in Matthew 7:21-
23 (New King James Version), ‘Not everyone who says to Me, ‘’Lord, Lord,’’ shall enter
the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. Many will say to
Me in that day, ‘’Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in
Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’’ And then I will declare to them, ‘I
never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’ This is a grave warning
to all of us not to walk in disobedience while invoking the name of Jesus. To all
