Working with Horizontal and Vertical Multiples
Power View supports the ability to break down a chart into smaller multiples of the chart.
For example, you can break down a single chart that spans a year into multiple, smaller
charts broken down by each month of the year.To create a chart with vertical multiples follow these steps.- Open the PicnicItemAnalysis Power View Report.
- Create a new view.
- Click inside the title area. Type a title, for example, Leftover Versus Server
Monthly Analysis. - From the fi eld list on the right, expand Quantities.
- Drag the measure named Sum of Leftovers to the layout section. The Sum of
Leftovers measure displays as a table. - Drag the Sum of Qty Served measure next to Sum of Leftovers inside the same
table. Make sure Sum of Qty Served is placed inside the same table and not on a
separate table. - Under the Design menu option of the Table Tools, expand the visualizations options
on the Ribbon menu. Click Clustered Column. The table changes to a Clustered
Column Chart. - From the fi eld list on the right, expand Date.
- Drag MonthName to the Vertical Multiples box below the fi eld list section.
- Click Grid on the Layout menu option on the Ribbon menu. Change the chart to
a 6 x 2 chart. - Change the Legend to show Legend at Top.
- Resize the chart to occupy all the area below the title, as shown in Figure 59-10.
- Save the Power View report.
An example involving horizontal multiples may include an analysis where distributors can
be compared on a quarterly basis broken down by the months in each quarter.

- Create a new view.
- Click inside the title area. Type a title, for example, Leftover Versus Server
Distributors Quarterly Analysis. - From the fi eld list on the right, expand Quantities.
- Drag the measure named Sum of Leftovers to the layout section. The Sum of
Leftovers measure displays as a table.
