Chapter 27: Database Mirroring

Now that you created your WSFC cluster, you must set up your availability group in SQL
Server. To begin, you fi rst need to enable AlwaysOn on each node.


  1. Open SQL Server Confi guration Manager, and go to SQL Server Services node.

  2. Right-click the service for the SQL Server 2012 instance, and from the context
    menu select Properties.

  3. Click the AlwaysOn High Availability tab. The name of the Windows failover clus-
    ter name is automatically populated for you. Check the box for Enable AlwaysOn
    Availability Groups, as shown in Figure 27-18, and click OK. To take effect, this
    requires a service restart.

  1. Open Management Studio, and connect to the instance you want to use as your
    primary replica. Under the instance, expand the AlwaysOn High Availability node,
    right-click the Availability Groups folder, and select New Availability Group Wizard.
    Click Next at the Introduction screen.

  2. Provide a unique name (not the cluster name) for your availability group, and
    click Next.

  3. From the Select Databases screen, select the databases you want to be in the avail-
    ability group. Under the Status column, as shown in Figure 27-19, it tells you if the
