. I have intentionally been conservative in my recommendations for the
training of teenagers. e value of good supervision is so great that I would
remove some of my proscriptions if hands-on and expert coaching is avail-
able. But very few people have that sort of good fortune, and of those who
do, probably most are getting it from fathers who are long-term trainees.
e latter will probably have spent a chunk of their lives training incor-
rectly, but can finally get it right—for the training of their children. Here is
when youth and wisdom can be united in a training situation, so long as the
coaches do the job properly and do not repeat their own mistakes.
. A child should not be pushed too much too soon. Premature pressure can
kill a youngster’s enthusiasm, and risk destroying a good parent-child rela-
tionship. Haste makes waste.
