So how important is training and learning to these organizations
and the individuals?

Tr aining and learning can make a significant difference in the lives
of individuals and organizations. To have a successful organization,
training has to take place; it provides employees with the competencies
needed to do their jobs. A learning organization keeps the culture
changing and growing in a positive direction. It fosters growth and
in novation; it inspires the workforce, and creates a customer-focused
culture. In fact, to have continuous improvement take place in an
organization, training and lear ning have to be integral parts of the
plan. And a learning organization is a critical component of sustaining a
competitive edge. As Stephen Covey, author of The 7 Habits of Highly
Ef fective People, says, we must “sharpen the saw.” One aspect of
sharpening the saw is taking time for renewal and learning. Successful
people and organizations have training and learning as integral parts of
th eir strategic plan.
