Societyatwarwithin itself,class against class,

sex against sex; kings with no authority to

control, who no longer reign, who have no

responsibility,towhom has been leftthesocial

powertodo evilwhile the governing power to

do good has been wrested from them; the

powertornfromthemplacedinthe handsofa

many-millioned ignorance,in some vague hope

that thiswill be pulling in so many directions

that noveryharmfulmovementwilloccur; and

as a result moral and physical deterioration

visible everywhere, poverty and misery well-

nighinvincible,with no wisdom that isableto

guide,nopowerthat venturestocontrol. Men

look dimly backward and fearfully forward,

wondering whenasocial cataclysm will occur,

andsome dream sadlyof the dayswhenthere

werekingswhowereInitiatesandwhogathered

the nations under the safe shelter of their

thrones,whereknowledgeandpowergrewinto

mightylifeandrealisedatruesociety. Andwhat

of the powerof creation? but,as^1 said,that

isnowunknown,anditisuselesstospeakofit.
