This prescription is excellent to clear Damp-Heat in Stomach and Spleen. It is especially suited
to clear lingering Damp-Heat causing chronic tiredness and ache in the muscles. The main
symptoms and signs indicating this prescription are a feeling of heaviness, ache and fatigue of
the muscles, a muzzy feeling of the head, thirst, a sticky taste, nausea, epigastric fullness,
tiredness, lethargy, sleepiness, loose foulsmelling stools, a sticky-yellow tongue coating and a
Slippery-Rapid pulse.


This is the best prescription to clear remaining Damp-Heat in the Interior causing symptoms of
ME. In practice, the Damp-Heat is bound to be accompanied by a deficiency of the Spleen, and
the prescription should be adapted to address this situation. A very simple change would be
merely the addition of Bai Zhu Rhizoma Atractylodis macrocephalae.

Explanation



  • Da Huang and Zhi Shi move downward and eliminate Dampness by purging.

  • Huang Lian and Huang Qin clear Damp-Heat.

  • Fu Ling and Ze Xie drain Dampness.

  • Bai Zhu and Shen Qu tonify the Spleen to resolve Dampness and resolve food
    accumulation.


While the previous prescription is suitable if the stools are loose, this prescription is used if the
