Zhi Gan Cao Radix Glycyrrhizae uralensis praeparata 3 g
Huang Qi Radix Astragali membranacei 9 g
Fu Ling Sclerotium Poriae cocos 6 g
Suan Zao Ren Semen Ziziphi spinosae 4 g
Yuan Zhi Radix Polygalae tenuifoliae 4 g
Dang Gui Radix Angelicae sinensis 6 g
Mu Xiang Radix Saussureae 3 g
Xian He Cao Herba Agrimoniae pilosae 6 g
Pu Huang Pollen Typhae 4 g
Bai Shao Radix Paeoniae albae 9 g

Explanation Long Yan Rou was eliminated as the patient did not suffer from
insomnia, and Fu Shen was substituted for Fu Ling for the same reason.


Xian He Cao was added to stop bleeding.

Pu Huang was added to move Blood.

Bai Shao calms and nourishes Blood.

If we analyse this prescription, we can see that the four aims of
treatment to stop bleeding are fulfilled:

Harmonize Blood Stop bleeding: Xian He Cao Move Blood: Pu Huang
Calm Blood: Bai Shao Nourish Blood: Dang Gui

Treat the Root-Cause: Huang Qi, Ren Shen and Bai Zhu (tonify Qi)

Astringe: Suan Zao Ren

Treat Qi: Huang Qi (raise Qi).

This patient's condition improved gradually over 1 year after which his
bleeding stopped and he felt much better in general.

Blood in the Urine


This consists in bleeding in the urine without pain on micturition. If there is pain on micturition,
refer to Blood Painful Urinary Syndrome Chapter 20


Blood in the urine may range from profuse frank blood, to microscopic traces of which are
invisible to the naked eye.
