Explanation
This formula has a stronger effect than the previous one in clearing Damp-Heat and Fire-Poison
and is therefore used when there is a profuse sticky-yellow or purulent nasal discharge.
- Xin Yi Hua and Bai Zhi direct the prescription to the nose and sinuses. They also expel
Wind. - Chai Hu, Jing Jie, Bo He, Jie Geng and Ma Huang expel Wind and restore the
dispersing and descending of Lung-Qi. Chai Hu and Jie Geng also direct the other herbs
upwards. - Huang Qin, Zhi Zi and Long Dan Cao resolve Damp-Heat.
- Yu Xing Cao and Jin Yin Hua resolve Fire-Poison.
- Gua Lou resolves Phlegm-Heat.
- Chuan Xiong expels Wind.
