- Ban Xia, Chen Pi and Fu Ling resolve Dampness, Phlegm and food accumulation.
- Lian Qiao clears Stomach-heat which frequently results from retention of food. It can be
eliminated if the tongue coating is not yellow.
Variations
- If there is a pronounced feeling of distension add Zhi Shi Fructus Citri aurantii
immaturus, Sha Ren Fructus seu Semen Amomi and Bing Lang Semen Arecae catechu. - If there is constipation add Da Huang Rhizoma Rhei, Hou Po Cortex Magnoliae
officinalis, Zhi Shi Fructus Citri aurantii immaturus (these three herbs constitute the
Xiao Cheng Qi Tang Small Conducting Qi Decoction), Mu Xiang Radix Saussureae and
Xiang Fu Rhizoma Cyperi rotundi. - If there is severe pain which is worse with pressure, constipation and a dry yellow tongue
coating, add Da Cheng Qi Tang Great conducting Qi Decoction (Da Huang Radix Rhei,
Mang Xiao Mirabilitum, Hou Po Cortex Magnoliae officinalis and Zhi Shi Fructus Citri
aurantii immaturus). - If there is severe accumulation of food add Ji Nei Jin Endothelium Corneum Gigeraiae
Galli, Mai Ya Fructus Hordei vulgaris germinatus and Gu Ya Fructus Oryzae sativae
germinatus.
If the stagnation is not relieved promptly by the treatment the patient should be advised to fast
for a few days. Even if the stagnation is relieved, the patient should eat less and eat
easilydigestible foods.
