  • In case of belching add Mei Gui Hua Flos Rosae rugosae and Fu Shou Fructus Citri
    sarcodactylis.

  • If there are pronounced symptoms of rebellious Qi (such as belching, hiccup, nausea and
    vomiting) add Chen Xiang Lignum Aquilariae and Xuan Fu Hua Flos Inulae.

  • If stagnant Liver-Qi leads to Liver-Fire, manifesting with a Red tongue with redder sides,
    a bitter taste and thirst, add Mu Dan Pi Cortex Moutan radicis and Shan Zhi Zi Fructus
    Gardeniae jasminoidis, remove Chai Hu Radix Bupleuri and increase the dosage of Bai
    Shao Radix Paeoniae albae and Gan Cao Radix Glycyrrhizae uralensis.

  • If Liver-Fire begins to damage the Yin add Sheng Di Huang Radix Rehmanniae
    glutinosae, Mai Men Dong Tuber Ophiopogonis japonici and Chuan Lian Zi Fructus
    Meliae toosendan. In such a case it would be very important to avoid hot-spicy foods,
    alcohol and smoking.

  • If there is sour regurgitation add Wa Leng Zi Concha Arcae and Wu Zei Gu Os Sepiae.

  • If there are signs of Phlegm add a small dose of Bai Jie Zi Semen Sinapis albae (2 g)
    which resolves mucus from the gastric membrane.

  • If there is epigastric distension soon after eating add Gu Ya Fructus Oryzae sativae
    germinatus, Mai Ya Fructus Hordei vulgaris germinatus and Lai Fu Zi Semen Raphani
    sativi.


In a condition such as this, clearly caused by emotional stress, it is important to explore with the
patient the life situations and possibly emotional patterns which are at the root of the condition.
If necessary, the help of a skilled counsellor or psychotherapist should be enlisted.


In cases of severe emotional tension the following herbs could be added:



  • He Huan Pi Cortex Albizziae julibrissin, Suan Zao Ren Semen Ziziphi spinosae and Yu
    Jin Tuber Curcumae.
