  • If there are symptoms of exterior invasion with alternation of hot and cold sensations and
    a bitter taste, add the formula Xiao Chai Hu Tang Small Bupleurum Decoction.

  • If Heat has begun to injure Yin add Sheng Di Huang Radix Rehmanniae glutinosae, Zhi
    Mu Radix Anemarrhenae asphodeloidis and Bai Mao Gen Rhizoma Imperatae
    cylindricae (to prevent bleeding from Empty-Heat).

Explanation


This formula, which has already been explained in Chapters 1 and 10 , is used if Damp-Heat in
the Bladder is transmitted from Liver-Fire. The formula needs little modification as it drains
Damp-Heat both in the head (such as in otitis media) and in the Lower Burner (such as in
Painful-Urination Syndrome). In fact, Ze Xie, Mu Tong and Che Qian Zi within the prescription
will drain Damp-Heat from the Bladder, and Zhi Zi drains Damp-Heat from the Three Burners.
