- Qiang Huo and Qin Jiao expel Wind-Dampness and release the Exterior. Their function
is to help to resolve oedema by sweating. - Da Fu Pi, Fu Ling Pi and Sheng Jiang Pi resolve oedema.
- Ze Xie, Mu Tong, Jiao Mu, Chi Xiao Dou, Shang Lu and Bing Lang drain Damp-Heat
and promote urination and defecation.
Variations
- If oedema is severe and there is breathlessness and scanty urination with symptoms of
fluids in the lungs add both Wu Ling San Five "Ling" Powder and Wu Pi San Five Peels
Powder. - If the Heat part of Damp-Heat has injured the Yin fluids and there is a complex picture of
both retention of fluids in the form of oedema and deficiency of fluids from Yin
deficiency, the treatment method of draining fluids to resolve oedema may injure Yin
further. In this case use Zhu Ling Tang Polyporus Decoction:

Ze Xie Rhizoma Alismatis orientalis 9 g
Hua Shi Talcum 9 g
E Jiao Gelatinum Corii Asini 9 g
- If Damp-Heat has affected the Bladder and there is blood in the urine add Xiao Ji Herba
Cephalanoplos segeti and Bai Mao Gen Rhizoma Imperatae cylindricae.

Clinical Manifestations
Oedema of the abdomen and/or legs, pitting on pressure, feeling of oppression of the chest and
abdomen, loose stools, pale face, tiredness, scanty urine.
Tongue: Pale, Swollen, teeth-marks.
