Solving
Systems of
Equations

f. Click on cell B20, and drag right and down to cell G22. Format these
cells EXACTLY the same as you did in Step 5c, including the color.
Enter the following text in this box:
5) Enter the x-coefficient from the last equation (the pink one) in Box C. The
correct solutions will be shown in the dark blue and red boxes to the right
labeled x and y.”

g. Last text box! Click on cell B24 and drag right and down to cell G25.
This box also is formatted EXACTLY the same as Step 7.
Enter the following text in this box:
6) Compare the results of the check to the right with the original equations.
They should be the same.”

  1. Enter and format the template for the first equation.

a. Move your cursor to cell K8. Starting with that cell, type the following
equation, PLACING ONLY ONE character per cell: A x + B y = C

In order to type in the + and = without Excel thinking you want to enter
a formula, you will need to precede each of those characters with an
apostrophe. This tells Excel that they are text characters. When you
finish, you will be in cell Q8.

b. Starting with cell K8, click and drag to the right to highlight the range
K8:Q8. Right-click; select the Borders tab and click Outline from the
Presets. From the Patterns tab, select bright yellow (second row from
the bottom).

c. Now you will change the widths of columns M and P. Move your cursor
to the very top, next to the letter M in column M. The cursor will
change to a plus sign with a horizontal arrow. Double-clicking at that
