HOW TO USE THIS LEADERSHIP TOOL

“Nobody can implement commitment for you.”
—Marvin Weisbord, PRODUCTIVE WORKPLACES

Use this tool to assess job satisfaction—and even to redesign jobs—in your workgroup. Ask

each member of the group to complete the questionnaire provided here, in preparation for a

group discussion of job satisfaction and job design. Depending on the level of trust in the

group, you could collect questionnaire responses and report these back in aggregate and

anonymous form, or each individual group member could speak about his or her own ques-

tionnaire responses.

Seek mutual agreement on improvement areas, as evidenced by cumulative questionnaire

results. Listen, respect differences, and provide direct feedback as part of this group dialogue

process. Carried out effectively, this process will lead to the enthusiastic involvement of group

members in redesigning their jobs and working to improve their job satisfaction, individual

performance, and overall organizational results.
