HOW TO USE THIS LEADERSHIP TOOL
“The best way to have a good idea is to have a lot of ideas.”
—Linus Pauling, Nobel Prize WinnerSome hints for successful use of this tool:
- Keep the size of the group small.
- As in brainstorming, it is okay to ask for clarification during idea generation, but it is
not okay to critique the idea. - Enforce the rule of silence during grouping, but discuss ideas before creating a heading.
- Don’t agonize over the sorting. The point is not to achieve “truth,” but workable cate-
gories. - When one grouping becomes much longer than the others, think about subdividing
the group.
