Brain

The brain is one of the most complicated organs in the human body, as it coordinates almost every physical and mental
activity of the body. Although little is known about the mechanisms by which the brain regulates and coordinates all
of the body’s voluntary and involuntary activities, it is clear that the primary control over various functional activities
is localized to different areas of the brain.

9–81 The CF encephal/orefers to the brain. Build a word that means
inflammation of brain (tissue):____________________ / __________
tumor of the brain:____________________ / __________

9–82 The brain is divided into three major divisions for discussion. The first is
the (1) cerebrum, which is the largest and uppermost portion of the brain. A thin
layer known as the cerebral cortex covers the entire cerebrum and is composed of
gray matter. Different areas of the cerebral cortex are responsible for most higher
mental functions, including vision, speech, voluntary movements, memory, and
reasoning. Label the cerebrum in Figure 9–8.
