27.1 Introduction
The dawning of the 21st century has been marked by a confluence of
transformative dynamics in higher education, resulting in a growing
focus on the re-evaluation and re-envisioning of global higher education
as well as an unequivocal global reaffirmation of education as a primary
driver and catalyst of socio-economic development^248 , a ‘common
good’, and a ‘fundamental human right’.^249 Drawing on seminal accre-
tive research, the Unesco Position Paper on Education Post-2015 ad-
dresses emerging considerations for consideration within the remit of
responsibilities attributed to universities and higher education. These
include the emerging social and sustainability, transformative dimension
of teaching and learning that focuses on the wellbeing of people and
