Advanced tone control - part b

In this image the lighting is very fl at - cloud cover has removed the useful modelling light usually
provided by the sun and all we are left with is a soft diffused light fi lling the entire landscape. All
is not lost however as the image has some useful color and tonal differences that we can exploit.
In the previous project we used gradients to limit the adjustments, in this project we must explore
alternative techniques to extract the drama.

  1. To increase the overall contrast in the image create an adjustment layer (any adjustment layer)
and set this adjustment layer to Soft Light mode. You do not have to make any adjustment inside
the adjustment layer dialog box - simply click OK and change the blend mode of the layer. It is a
really fast and economical way (Bits/Channel images only) to increase the overall contrast of an
    image.
