MEZE AUDIO LIRIC
£1,850, mezeaudio.eu
Headphones are headphones, until they’re an
experience. Meze Audio isn’t a big
manufacturer, but its tiny Romanian factory
produces some of the most incredible
audiophile cans available. The company’s latest
take on Rinaro’s originally Soviet-designed
Isodynamic Hybrid Array driver keeps the
vibrating diaphragm and planar magnetics but
scales it back slightly, meaning you no longer
need to pump untold ohms in to get any sound
out – and you yourself can be moving while
enjoying them. They’re dual-driven, with each
diaphragm featuring a low-frequency
switchback coil at the upper edge and a
high-end spiral coil closer to the ear canal,
capable of hitting 92,000Hz at its top end, and
that is merely the tiniest taste of the headlines.
T 3 SAYS: Buy us these and you will never see
our ears again.
ANALOGUE POCKET
$199 (around £150), analogue.co
What if a Game Boy had a screen with ten
times the resolution, covered by Gorilla Glass?
What if it had remappable buttons and a
built-in software synth? And what if it could
also play Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance,
and even Game Gear, Neo Geo Pocket Color
and Atari Lynx games? That’s the Analogue
Pocket, a handheld with a familiar form factor
which plays all of your old games with perfect
accuracy. Everything about the original
hardware is recreated down to transistor level
on an FPGA inside – you can even link it up to
a classic GB and trade some Pokémon. There’s
also no worries about the legality of ROM files
- you need the original cartridges to get it
going. One day there might even be more in
store, as Analogue is fostering a whole dev
stream to help build new retro-style games.
T 3 SAYS: This is what every pocket needs.
