If you had lived in the U.S. and had enjoyed the freedom of movement
for everybody, until a short while ago including the red fascists, if you
had furthermore experienced the totally different character of the whole
atmosphere as compared with the senile and authoritarian Europe, you
would understand as I do that the American is determined not to permit
any pestilent little man disguised as a vicious "liberator" of mankind to
destroy America's possibilities for freedom. Many of us here find that

I am sure you will get your visum. It was never refused according to
two informations, from the Consulate and the State Department. You
made your application too late. I suggest most sincerely that you come
over in any case whenever the visum is issued. It will strengthen your
spirits and pour hope into your hearts to be here where, in spite of all,
a better future is fought for In decency. What is absolutely necessary in
present times is to take a clear-cut stand against red fascism.
The State Department has given its recommendation to the Consul in
London on July 31. And forget about McIntosh!

the fact that you had C.P. people employed but that you did not clearly
and sharply write against them in accordance with your true conviction
so often expressed in private for many years. It will greatly help to
alleviate your depression if you only could readily understand the
necessity of the precautions taken by the U.S.A. The C.P. gangsters are
still running around free in the U.S.A. causing much trouble. While
holding on desperately to the first amendment which guarantees free
speech to every citizen, it is desperately hard to find an answer to these
fellows who reduced the whole Marxian sociology of 100 years ago to
mere spying, disturbing, undermining of everything, but everything that
is not under their hideous control, no matter whether good or bad.
There is just no clear answer to these murderers of freedom, the Little
