Men in power for power's sake only. Neither war nor crossing out of the
liberties will do. They misuse them wherever they can. We suffered in
our educational institutions quite frightfully from their underhanded
ness. And they thrive on the sickness of the masses of Little Men
a horrifying problem for humanity to be solved.
We here believe that your visum will come soon. I believe that a
visit now would be most important for you to gather strength for the
coming years. Thus, I suggest to fly if necessary, no matter when, if
the visum comes through.
The people here were very helpful. Senators and famous lawyers
intervened. The State Department was friendly and cooperative in its
procedures. You must try to understand that the screening is necessary
and takes time. If you had only applied a few weeks earlier all would
have been all right. The American Consul in London wrote to us that
he would have "been happy to receive your application." It might
well be that the vice consul interfered and caused the delay for religious
reasons. But if we accept the C.P. slander murderers' talk even at this
late hour then we cannot possibly forbid a catholically minded vice
consul to object to your visum.
I believe that these considerations will hel p to dispel your depression
somewhat. It would be depressing here too if you failed to join the
convention, since it will be mostly devoted to the problem "Children of
the Future" to which you have contributed so much-also indirectly
against the pestilence of red fascism which has no regard and only
despise for human life and happiness.
Should you miss the convention, then I would still advise you to come
over, if for no other reason than to get rid of this feeling of "not being
wanted in the U.S.A."
Keep in touch, Neill. We have done here what we could and I think
successfully.

There is still a chance that the visum will come in time for
you to fly over. However, should the visum fail to come through, I want
you to take it calmly and without depression. This incident has a very
