Denny drove him back to the airport the next day.
Only a week later, Roger and I landed in Austin. He had the
surgery, and we spent the following ten days in the home of
these complete strangers—who ultimately became my
husband’s caretakers, our nightly dinner partners, our daily
walking partners, and our friends. We left Texas in mid-January
2007 and returned home. I can’t explain how I—a somewhat
high-maintenance kind of gal—could feel as if I had been on a
vacation or as if I had never left home, but that is how it felt to
me. More important, Roger very quickly recovered from his
operation— something he was concerned would be a much
longer process—and has been cancer-free for over a year now.
(He was also healthy enough to preside as a pastor at our
son’s wedding two months later.)
God talks. He does!
He nudges you to turn left or right, to talk or be silent. He
encourages you to give and take, to stop or go. He whispers—
and shouts—until He gets your attention. He makes His very
specific ways known to you. He goes before and behind you.
Let God talk to you.
