es gibt ‘there is/there are’(a) Being around/aboutsein and existieren are the obvious verbs to indicate presence. Sein is usually
complemented by an adverb:Er ist da.
He is here.Herr Meier ist hier.
Mr Meier is here.Wer ist da? Ich bin’s.
Who is there? It’s me.Von der Urgroßmutter existiert noch ein Foto aus ihrer Kindheit.
There is a photo of great-grandmother (in existence) from her
childhood.When talking about somebody’s presence, use -s Dasein:Sein Dasein gab ihr Trost.
His presence comforted her/consoled her.
