ACKNOWLEDGMENTS
Behind the simple title of this book lies an ambitious mission: to convince
readers that food can nourish, heal, energize, and delight, all at the same time. I
couldn’t have pulled it off without the support of a squad of talented
collaborators, and I am deeply grateful to every one of them. I must first thank
Ted Spiker, who brings clarity, accuracy, and, crucially, humour to everything we
write together. Also, enormous thanks go to Jill Herzig, who helped to create the
concept behind Food Can Fix It and edited these pages along with the editors of
my magazine, Dr. Oz The Good Life. Her staff leapt in to help, so additional
thanks go to Lisa Bain and Rebecca Santiago, along with Margarita Bertsos,
Abby Greene, Marty Munson, Allison Chin, and Miranda Van Gelder. Visual
appeal plays a huge role in this book—would you eat a fix-it food if it didn’t
look delicious?—and for that I thank the magazine’s photo director Bruce Perez
and design director Jaclyn Steinberg, as well as the book’s photo editor, Martha
Corcoran. Every fact and study went through a triple-checking process led by
Karen Jacob, along with Katherine Wessling and Joy Wingfield. Similarly, all
recipes were developed by culinary pros including Christine Albano, Lori
Powell, and Susan Spungen, and then tested by Maryann Pomeranz and
Antonina Smith.
Numerous outside experts enriched this book with their deep knowledge. A
few of those include Kristin Kirkpatrick, R.D.; Jacqueline Crockford, M.S.,
C.S.C.S.; Keri Gans, R.D.; and Dr. Michael Roizen.
My staff at The Dr. Oz Show also pitched in with this effort, so many thanks
go to Amy Chiaro, Michael Crupain, Gretchen Goetz, Donna O’Sullivan, and
