On the subject of hypnosis and deactivating the RAS
how do we know when the RAS is deactivated and
how do we know which is the level of ultra-
consciousness that you talk about? If we don't reach
a deep level are we wasting our time?
Good question. The most important thing is to
relax prior to your visualizing. That state of 'ultra
consciousness' would be felt by the fact that you were
fully awake but feeling very relaxed. Your internal
dialogue would have stopped. (You'd be wasting your
time trying to reprogram, if you had the internal
chatter still going on.) Milton Erickson, the world's
greatest hypnotherapist discovered everyone would
slip into the' state' that suited them best. He also
stated that some people would go into heavy trances
and others preferred light trances, but he'd always be
able to do good work, even with people in light
trances. The main thing, was they relaxed in their own
way.

Can one slip into the deactivated state by accident?
Yes and very simply too, under the right
circumstances. It's happened to me on a number of
occasions, luckily for me, on both I recognized them.
The first time was when I was driving on a motorway
on the way to Birmingham, in England. Luckily for
me I noticed the altered state of consciousness. I read
later that many motorway crashes were due to the fact
the barrier posts in the middle of the road were a
certain distance apart. At a certain speed, the lights of
the autos coming in the opposite direction flash
between the posts at just the right frequency to cause
a hypnotic effect and deactivate the RAS. I'm
convinced many people fall asleep on motorways and
freeways, because of this phenomena.

The other time I was at a dinner party and I was
