“Getting down to business: The ethics of preparing graduates for global
citizenship”
Professor Mandla Stanley Makhanya is the Principal and Vice
Chancellor of the University of South Africa. He is also Treasurer of the
African Council for Distance Education and President of the
International Council for Distance Education. Professor Makhanya is
also the Vice President of the Higher Education Teaching and Learning
Association. Professor Makhanya is a sociologist with a DPhil from the
University of Pretoria and a DTE from Unisa. He received a PhD
(Honoris Causa) from Athabascar University in recognition of his
outstanding leadership at Unisa and his contribution as a distinguished
scholar in distance education. He maintains active scholarship through
regular publications.

“Universities, cultural diversity and global ethics: opportunities
for moral leadership”
Professor Martin Prozesky is an ethics trainer and writer operating under
the banner of Compass Ethics. He is a Professor Extraordinaire of the
University of the Free State, an Emeritus Professor of the University of
KwaZulu-Natal, and from 1997 to 2007 directed the Unilever Ethics
Centre at the University of KwaZulu-Natal (1997-2007). He studied at
Rhodes, Oxford and in Cambridge, Massachusetts, with a doctorate
from the former University of Rhodesia. His book Conscience: Ethical
Intelligence for Global Well-Being appeared in 2007 from the UKZN
