I look forward to David
Walsh’s articles, but with
reference to his piece on the
Ireland v Wales match I wish
to inform him there is no
such position in rugby union
as second receiver. The
position to which he refers is
known as inside centre.
Second receiver is a play on
NFL positions and I find it sad
that David has fallen into
borrowing language from
another discipline.
Charlie Jackson, Gullane
I congratulate Rod Liddle on
his column of February 6. I
am a Wolves fan and when
we beat Manchester United
1-0 a few weeks ago a neutral
viewer would have needed to
consult the fixture list to find
out who won. There was only
minimal mention of how well
we played — it was all about
how badly Man United
played and the predictable
platitudes from the panel
about who they are going to
sell and sign. Well done for
highlighting why United have
little support outside the
likes of London, Surrey and
Berkshire.
