Chapter 52

ARROGANCE

Islamhaswarnedagainstarroganceandself-conceitthatcreateegoism
andtyranny. Theyarealsothe indicationsofignoranceandpride.God
said:
Donotattributepuritytoyoursouls.Heknowshimbestwhoguards
againstevil. Therefore,enter the gatesofhell,to abide therein. Socer-
tainly evil is the dwelling place of the proud.
TheProphetsaid,“Threemattersareannihilating.Theyaretheobeyed
niggardliness, the pursued fancy, and self-esteem.”. “Arrogance con-
sumesthegooddeedslikefirewhenconsumeswood.”.Imamas-Sadiq
(a) said, “Doom is the outcome of arrogance.”.
Islamhasantagonizedtheeviltendencyofarrogancethatisoriginated
from ignorance, pride, and rashness.
