Selecting a data source type
Enter a new DSN name

Each item (if any) in the list box on this dialog box is a configured DSN pointing to an
ODBC data source. In this case, there are no DSNs configured, so the list is empty.

The options are to link to a File Data Source, a User Data Source, or (possibly) a System
DSN to communicate between Access and SQL Server. You’ll see a System Data Source
tab in the Select Data Source dialog box when a System DSN is available on your
computer.

  1. Click New because no DSN yet exists.

The Create New Data Source Wizard (shown in Figure 37.6) appears. It contains a list of
all ODBC drivers installed on the computer.

Note
The drivers you see on your computer may be different from the list shown here.

  1. Scroll all the way down the list of drivers and select the SQL Server driver (ignore
the SQL Native Client driver for now), and click Next.

  2. The next screen (shown in Figure 37.7) asks for the name of the new DSN. Type
CollectibleMiniCars_SQL as the DSN name and click Next.

The final screen of the Create New Data Source Wizard contains just a Finish button, and
is not shown here.
