Selecting a data source type
Enter a new DSN name
Each item (if any) in the list box on this dialog box is a configured DSN pointing to an
ODBC data source. In this case, there are no DSNs configured, so the list is empty.
The options are to link to a File Data Source, a User Data Source, or (possibly) a System
DSN to communicate between Access and SQL Server. You’ll see a System Data Source
tab in the Select Data Source dialog box when a System DSN is available on your
computer.
- Click New because no DSN yet exists.
The Create New Data Source Wizard (shown in Figure 37.6) appears. It contains a list of
all ODBC drivers installed on the computer.
Note
The drivers you see on your computer may be different from the list shown here.
- Scroll all the way down the list of drivers and select the SQL Server driver (ignore
the SQL Native Client driver for now), and click Next. - The next screen (shown in Figure 37.7) asks for the name of the new DSN. Type
CollectibleMiniCars_SQL as the DSN name and click Next.
The final screen of the Create New Data Source Wizard contains just a Finish button, and
is not shown here.
