refused to allow Torgersen a new trial. In most countries that would have
been the end of the story, but Torgersen’s team succeeded in getting a new
hearing before a commission for criminal case review (Kommisjonen for
Gjnopptakelse av Straffesaker). Dr. Whittaker again testified for the prosecu-
tor (Professor MacDonald had died in the interim) and Dr. Senn testified
again for the defense. This commission, to the great surprise of Torgersen’s
team, also refused to recommend a new trial for Torgersen. Torgersen and his
