Substance volume tracking
This feature provides a structure for controlling the substance volumes needed
for REACH and other regulatory reporting. It tracks substance volumes by
monitoring the relevant material movements in the SAP system, exploding
materials to base ingredients through bills of material, material-specification
assignments, and compositions. It derives and aggregates required data for
other relevant criteria, too, such as year, plant, and country. You can define
threshold limits for each regulation and substance, and execute Web-based
checks via other business processes, including purchasing, production, and
sales. When the system determines that a regulatory limit has been met or
exceeded, either it will send a warning or block the relevant business process.
Document management and shipping
The solution enables you to manually or automatically locate, generate,
manipulate, organize, and ship high-quality documents and reports such as
MSDSs, standard operating procedures, and labels in a variety of formats.
Because the solution enables precise control of the amount and content of
the data in your documents, you can create documents that are specific to
your product and to both the destination countries and those through which
the goods will travel. Multilingual documents and labels can be created, too,
as can complex labels.
Your documents can hold all specification data, as well as graphics and other
documents. Using a modified version of Microsoft Word (Windows Word
Processor Integration [WWI]), you can define the exact document layout.
Version and status management is also available for use with documents,
including those that you import. You can search documents with user-
friendly functions, via the Internet or your company intranet. Further, the
solution can automatically determine whether an MSDS is required based on
an order or delivery through SAP Sales and Distribution. After it has ascer-
tained which MSDS (or bundles of MSDSs) it needs, the system automatically
locates, produces, and distributes them, ensuring that all legal requirements
are fulfilled.
Bill of materials transfer
You can use the bill of materials transfer solution to create the composition
of a specification that is assigned to a material from your bill of material
(BOM), either manually or automatically, creating new specifications and
their compositions or changing existing ones during the process. The EH&S
Expert automatically generates the data you need and converts units of mea-
surement. The system also changes the composition of the specification
accordingly if an item in the BOM changes. When specifications for a product
are altered, the system can automatically ship the most current version to
those who require it.
