Oneof the cynocephalous godsin the tomb of Seti I is called
rt dbdb-ta or (I (I 1 dab* This second form is the error of

a careless copyist,whohas omitted the first J and the final ■ ».

In writing the name of this god in the tomb of Rameses IV,f
the artist has twice misread~"~*for ■==. Thetrue reading is

unquestionablyneitherdab nor dbdb-en, but l\ J (| J = dbdb-ta.

Anotherdeity,on the same row as dbdbta, is called ^^^\<=»T
i jjj* ka-ta em xau-? or T ° ' Y ' • The latter readingis
constanton the monuments, but it is most certainlywrong. The

sign Y >s a mistake for \, the value of which is equivalent to j?J*.

A closer examinationof these textswill reveal a host of other
mistakes.

Let me finallyj referto a diorite statueof the goddess, of the
timeof Amenophis III, at Turin, uponwhichher name, according

to Lanzone, is phonetically written I as well as 0. §

X I have takenno notice of the apparent or real playuponwordsin the
Destructionof Mankind(lines 14 and 15) between sextn>and Se%et, whichcannot
possiblyjustifythe inference thatthe name of the goddess mustbe read Sochmit.
