The Story Of Lord Shiva’s Marriage With Parvati

(Kiana) #1

mṛganayani bidhubadanī racē'u mani man̄ju maṅgalahāra sō.
ura dharahum̐ jubatī jana bilōki tilōka sōbhā sāra sō.
kalyāna kāja uchāha byāha sanēha sahita jō gā'ihai.
tulasī umā saṅkara prasāda pramōda mana priya pā'ihai. 16.

Chanda 16. The doe-eyed, moon-faced beautiful wife (symbolising the poet’s
intellect—see previous verse 148) has created this auspicious garland using the
beautiful gems (represented by the glorious stories pertaining to the marriage of Shiva
and Parvati).
The women-folk representing the wisdom of devotees should consider this
garland as the essence of the beauty and majesty of the whole of the three worlds (i.e.
the whole world) and wear it.
Those who sing this song (Parvati Mangal) affectionately at the time of
marriage as well as other auspicious occasions and festivities, Tulsidas asserts and
declares with firmness that by the grace and benevolence of Uma and Shiva, they will
always find happiness, joy and pleasure of all kind which will be to their liking (i.e.
they will have all their desires fulfilled). (Chanda no. 16)
