Note.

  1. There is no safe text here, 'grandeur' is only meantto indicate
the existence of <^> in the original. Buttherecertainlyought to
be something differentfromwhatany of the MSS. supply.

AdditionalNote.

In Chapter 86 1 1 (I hasunquestionably the sense of ascer
tainingby inspection. The AbbotPapyrusin its account of the
enquiryrespecting the spoliation of the royal coffinsgives ample
evidenceof this meaning. Andthe word thereusedfor reporting

the result of the inspection is, as is Ch. 86, II y (I (2 QA semizu, in

CopticT-5-M.e.
But it is well to remember that I (J has another use ; which

perhapsimplies the existence of two homonymous roots. In a
passagequotedin Note 21 to Ch. 64, it certainly signifiesrestore.
Andthis may possiblybe its meaning in the rubric of Ch. 64. The
journey of Prince Hortataf may have had reference to the
restoration, not simply inspection,of the temples. In this senseit

is often written II (1 i E or I (I rPT? sapu- The Copticwordfor
