Overseer) to watch over and restrict our free will so that nothing ever happens again like
what we allowed to happen during the time when we had unconditional free will as
mortals. The lessons of mortality afford the opportunity for all to understand that we are all
capable of violating the “code of humanity” when given unrestricted free will. The “Christ”
is the ONE “prepared before the foundation of the world” for each batch of children in each
solar system to guarantee them the fullest possible expression of each individual’s
happiness, forever.

Learning to Become the Modern-day Moses

Joseph’s course in religion and its accompanying syllabus were the most useful to his
role. He was to act in every way possible like the Moses character of the Old Testament.
Therefore, he had to understand everything about the role Moses filled—who he was, what
he was, where he existed, when he existed, why he existed, and how he came into existence.
Joseph’s was instructed to:

Fundamentally, tell the people that they are their own gods^30 and do not need
any man to guide or lead them.^31 Teach the people to feel their own humanity
and project this feeling upon others, establishing themselves into communities
of equal and peaceful people.^32 Give the people a chance to exercise their free
will with only a basic code of humanity as their ruler and laws. This basic
code is, “Do unto others what you would have them do unto you in all
things.” Give them something they can understand. Give them a book [Bible
and Book of Mormon] of “God’s word,” which they are accustomed to
accepting and learning from, to teach them the great importance of this
simple code of humanity. Give them the chance to exercise their free will. In
this way, they will never be able to say that they weren’t given a fair chance
to prove their humanity by choosing what they would do with their free
agency. However, if, after all this, the people desire and choose a “golden
calf” of religion, then give them what they desire.^33

One of those “book[s]...of God’s word” (the Bible) and its product (Christianity),
were the most influential motivators of human behavior at the time. The people of
Joseph’s day proclaimed to believe in Jesus as the Christ, and also in the scriptures of the
Old Testament and its prophets. Because of this, Joseph’s mentors properly instructed
him in who he (Joseph) was to be for the people, what he was supposed to do, where he
was supposed to do it, when to do it, why he needed to do it, and how it should be
done. The advanced monitors wanted the inhabitants of the world to have a modern-day
example, showing them how human nature never changes, no matter where or when
mortals exist while in a state of exercising uninhibited free will.
The nature of mankind is to desire religion. Yet Joseph knew that nothing causes
more problems to mortals than the religions in which they believe—all of which (without
exception) are an “abomination in the sight of God.”^34 Our creators knew, if given the
choice, mortals would set themselves up as a special and chosen people, isolating
themselves into families, communities, cities, and nations. This, in turn, would negate the
code of humanity, which otherwise could bring peace to the world. While they knew that
the pride of the Jews was responsible for much of the misery brought upon themselves and
