consecrated lands, now they conspired to steal for themselves those prophecies which
were exclusively intended for the Native Americans.^7
The Book of Mormon prophesied that the “remnant of Jacob” (the Native American
people) would be assisted by the Gentiles (the white people), who

will establish my church among them, and they shall come in unto the
covenant and be numbered among this the remnant of Jacob, unto whom I
have given this land for their [the Native American’s] inheritance; And they
[the Gentiles who have a church established among them] shall assist my
people [the Native Americans], the remnant of Jacob, and also as many of the
house of Israel as shall come, that they may build a city, which shall be called
the New Jerusalem. And then shall they [the Gentiles] assist my people [the
Native Americans] that they may be gathered in, who are scattered upon all
the face of the land, in unto the New Jerusalem. And then shall the power of
heaven come down among them; and I also will be in the midst.^8

A Detailed Explanation of 3 Nephi, Chapter 21

All one needs to do is READ the Book of Mormon exactly as it is written and not how
one’s prejudices, for or against the book, filter one’s understanding of it. In the verses below,
Christ is speaking to the “former inhabitants of this continent”^9 when he visited them. He is
NOT speaking to the people in the latter days who are reading the record. In order to fully
understand what was said, each verse needs to be specifically explained:

1 And verily I say unto you, I give unto you a sign, that ye may know the time when these things
shall be about to take place—that I shall gather in, from their long dispersion, my people, O house of
Israel, and shall establish again among them my Zion;

The “you” are the descendants of Lehi, who were gathered in the land of Bountiful
listening to Christ, who is the only one speaking in the Book of Mormon story. “My people”
are the same “my people” Joseph Smith described in D&C, 52:2 as, “in Missouri upon the
land which I will consecrate unto my people, which are a remnant of Jacob, and those who
are heirs according to the covenant.”
Throughout the Book of Mormon, the descendants of Lehi, both the Nephites and the
Lamanites, are referred to as “the remnant of the house of Jacob.” The white-skinned
Nephites “were hunted by the Lamanites, until they were all destroyed.”^10 Mormon’s final
words were a message to “the remnant of the people who are spared.” He implores them to
stop warring and turn to Christ. He tells them that his record is for them and that they “will
also know that ye are a remnant of the seed of Jacob.”^11
The Book of Mormon is full of insight informing the reader that the record was specifically
written for the latter-day Native Americans living upon the American Continents, both South
and North. While this includes those of the various Indian tribes whose ancestry has been native
of the Americas for millennia, of particular note, these words of Christ also cover those who are
of the Latino populations of North and South America. They also include the islands associated
with these two continents, whose native blood has been mixed for nearly half a millennia with
the European powers that conquered them. In the broadest sense of the meaning, it includes all
