First of all, when you are hired by a client, it is not “your” photography, it’s
theirs. If you think of the photography you create as art, you’ll be prone to
delusions of grandeur. That’s not to say it’s not important; you are creating
memories for your clients—memories that they will treasure for a lifetime—and
that’s very meaningful. It’s so meaningful, in fact, that they will pay you good
money to give them what they want! So choose your lighting styles accordingly.
When all the elements come together to
meet the client’s needs and desires, your
portraits will virtually sell themselves.
