1.Use the ruler to measure and mark the 12-
gauge copper wire. You will need five pieces
that are each 2” long. Use the wire cutters or
tin snips to cut the wire.2.Use the ruler to measure and mark the 2”
pieces of 12-gauge copper wire 3/8” from
each end of the wire. This will give you a
visual guide to use when you flatten the ends
of the wire with the hammer.3.Lay the wire pieces onto a hard, flat surface
and use a hammer to strike the end of the
wire with a firm tap using the 3/8” mark that
you made on the end of the copper wire as
a visual guide. You may need to strike the
copper wire multiple times to achieve the
flatness necessary to allow sufficient space to
drill the holes. Do this step to both ends of
the copper wire.4.The ends of the copper wire will be sharp
after hammering them flat. Use a file to elim-
inate any sharp or rough edges. After filing
the edges, use a fine grit sanding pad to go
over the area where you have filed to smooth
the edges and eliminate any file marks. Do
this to both ends of the copper wire pieces.
