High school diploma or equivalent. Postsecondary education in entry - level account-
ing, fi nance, or closely related fi eld is desired.

Three years of basic accounting or bookkeeping experience.

The city has determined that a criminal background check and qualifi cations will
be checked for this position.
Other Qualifi cations
Knowledge of department and city policies and procedures and of computers.
Knowledge of payroll processing and procedures, accounting principles and pro-
cedures, and bookkeeping.
Knowledge of offi ce procedures practices and policies.
Profi cient in use of a personal computer and an online accounting system (Excel
preferred).

Strategic Job Analysis
Advances in information technology have changed many public and non-
profi t organizations. Positions are being redefi ned to mesh better with new
missions and services. Organizations have become less hierarchical as many
managerial responsibilities have been transferred to employees and work
teams. Positions have become more fl exible in the attempt to capitalize on
improved information management capabilities as well as the changing
characteristics of employees. Today many employees are expected to plan
and organize their own work. One result of these changes is that employ-
ees are expected to perform a variety of complex tasks that go beyond
formal job descriptions. Positions today are more fl exible than in the past
and contingent on changing organizational and job conditions.
