Using the

sharp edge

Create a sharp edge, and

then draw a series of vertical

lines. The sharp edge is often

used to add finer details to

a painting, such as twigs

and branches on trees, fine

grasses, and small flowers.

Using the

flat side

Place the flat side of the

pastel gently onto the

surface. Start very lightly,

and increase the pressure

on the pastel as you move

from left to right.

VARYING THE PRESSURE TO CREATE DIFFERENT TONES OF COLOR

Now use a light touch, and work from left to right, increasing your pressure. Notice how a darker

tone appears.
