Horsin’ around

Matthew Seed encourages you to get snapping
for a chance to win prizes and improve the lives
of horses, donkeys and mules around the world

cclaimed equine
photographer Matthew
Seed is a horse lover,
and the perfect
candidate to help judge
this year’s Brooke Photo Competition.
Matthew will also be taking one lucky
winner on a one-day masterclass,
with the loan of a Hasselblad camera.
The Brooke charity contest is open
to amateurs and pros alike, both within
and outside of the UK. There’s a £10
donation to enter, which will go
towards improving the lives of
hard-working horses, donkeys and
mules – and the people who depend
on them – around the world.
There are two categories to enter
(photos taken with a smartphone or

tablet, and photos taken with a
camera), and it doesn’t matter
whether the main equine subjects
are your own animals or those found
in the wild. The two categories are
for the best portrait or best action
shot of a horse, donkey or mule.
“I have been passionate about
photography as an art form [and
horses] since the age of 12, when
I received my first film camera,”
Matthew says.
“This competition is a wonderful
opportunity for all horse lovers to get
creative with photography and help
raise funds for Brooke. I’m really
looking forward to seeing a diverse
range of photography styles.”

No retouching
I don’t use retouching in my work
at all, other than to remove a lead
rope or something unsightly. This
is not a retouching competition,
so try and keep your entries
as authentic as possible.
