- Sew together a cream/pink
triangle-square and a pink print
21 ⁄ 2 × 101 ⁄ 2 " rectangle to make Unit I
(Diagram 18). The unit should
be 2^1 ⁄ 2 × 121 ⁄ 2 " including seam
allowances. Repeat to make eight
I units total. - Sew together a purple tone-
on-tone 2^1 ⁄ 2 " square and a cream
tone-on-tone 2^1 ⁄ 2 × 141 ⁄ 2 " rectangle to
make Unit J (Diagram 19). The unit
should be 2^1 ⁄ 2 × 161 ⁄ 2 " including seam
allowances. Repeat to make eight
J units total. - Referring to Diagram 20, sew
together a pink print 2^1 ⁄ 2 " square,
a cream tone-on-tone 2^1 ⁄ 2 " square,
an orange print 2^1 ⁄ 2 " square, a cream
tone-on-tone 2^1 ⁄ 2 × 81 ⁄ 2 " rectangle,
and a magenta tone-on-tone 2^1 ⁄ 2 "
square to make Unit K. The unit
should be 2^1 ⁄ 2 × 161 ⁄ 2 " including
seam allowances. Repeat to make
16 K units total. - Join a cream/magenta triangle-
square to left-hand end of a K unit
to make Unit L (Diagram 21). The
unit should be 2^1 ⁄ 2 × 181 ⁄ 2 " including
seam allowances. Repeat to make
eight L units total.
13. Sew together a cream tone-
on-tone 2^1 ⁄ 2 × 81 ⁄ 2 " rectangle and a
cream/pink triangle-square to make
Unit M (Diagram 22). The unit
should be 2^1 ⁄ 2 × 101 ⁄ 2 " including
seam allowances. Repeat to make
eight M units total.
14. Sew together a cream/pink
triangle-square and a pink print
21 ⁄ 2 × 101 ⁄ 2 " rectangle to make
Unit N (Diagram 23). The unit
should be 2^1 ⁄ 2 × 121 ⁄ 2 " including
seam allowances. Repeat to make
eight N units total.
15. Join a cream/pink triangle-square
to right-hand end of an N unit to
make Unit O (Diagram 24). The
unit should be 2^1 ⁄ 2 × 141 ⁄ 2 " including
seam allowances. Repeat to make
four O units total.
16. Sew together a cream/magenta
triangle-square and a cream tone-
on-tone 2^1 ⁄ 2 × 141 ⁄ 2 " rectangle to
make Unit P (Diagram 25). The
unit should be 2^1 ⁄ 2 × 161 ⁄ 2 " including
seam allowances. Repeat to make
four P units total.
Assemble Block 1
- Referring to Diagram 26, sew
a purple tone-on-tone 2^1 ⁄ 2 × 81 ⁄ 2 "
rectangle to top edge of a purple
center unit. Add an A unit to left-
hand edge. - Join a B unit to bottom edge of
Step 1 unit; then add a C unit to
right-hand edge (Diagram 27). The
unit now should be 12^1 ⁄ 2 " square
including seam allowances. - Referring to Diagram 28, sew
purple tone-on-tone 4^1 ⁄ 2 × 121 ⁄ 2 " and
