Passage Based Question
- Complete the given passage with appropriate words or
phrases.
Inspiration is a process by which fresh air enters the lungs.
It is initiated by the (i) of diaphragm which (ii) the
volume of thoracic cavity. The (iii) and (iv) are principal
muscles of inspiration. Expiration is a process by which
the foul air is expelled out from the lungs. It is initiated by
the (v) of diaphragm which (vi) the volume of thoracic
cavity. The (vii) and (viii) are the principle muscles of
expiration.
Assertion & Reason
In each of the following questions, a statement of Assertion
(A) is given and a corresponding statement of Reason (R)
is given just below it. Of the statements, mark the correct
answer as :
(a) if both A and R are true and R is the correct explanation of A
(b) if both A and R are true but R is not the correct explanation
of A
(c) if A is true but R is false
(d) if both A and R are false.
- Assertion : Respiratory quotient for anaerobic respiration
is infinity.
Reason : There is no consumption of oxygen but CO 2
is produced in most of the cases.
- Assertion : Alveolar wall is called as respiratory
membrane.
Reason : The wall of the alveoli is very thin and has rich
network of blood capillaries.
- Assertion : Glucose is the most common respiratory
substrate.
Reason : Carbohydrates contain more energy as
compared to fats.
- Assertion : Bronchitis is caused by the exposure to
air pollutants like CO.
Reason : This can be treated with suitable antibiotics and
bronchiodilator drugs.
- Assertion : The exchange of gases between lung alveoli
and pulmonary capillaries is called internal respiration.
Reason : The partial pressure of oxygen is lower in the
alveoli than in the oxygenated blood in the capillaries
of pulmonary arteries.
